Population:
The population of the Maldives is 369,031.  The United States population is 307,006,550.  This makes the Maldives .12% the population size of the United States.
1,190 small islands make up the Maldives, of the 200 inhabited, 87 are used for resorts.
Male is responsible for housing the majority of the population, approximately 1/3 of the.  Male is a very urban area, referred to as a concrete jungle.  The rest of the population flocks to rural coastal towns to support the fishing industry.

Agriculture:
Fish is the biggest export, especially since only 10% of the inhabited land is able to yield crops.  The next biggest export is copra and coir harvested from the coconut palm.  Copra is the meat of the coconut that is dried; coconut oil can be extracted from it or used to feed livestock. Coir is the fibre from the husk of the coconut that can be used to make many household products.
Rice and fish are key parts of a typical Maldivian diet.  The fish local, and the rice imported.

Industry and Tourism:
The biggest industries the Maldives has is tourism and fisheries, but relies heavily on tourism.  Locals find work in the resorts, tourist attractions, and fisheries.  The Maldives hosts approximately 600,000 tourists every year.  People are attracted from all over the world to the Maldives because of its beautiful water, white sand beaches, tropical climate, and top of the line resorts.
